As I was changing the gear and about to proceed as soon as the traffic light turned green, the person behind me began incessantly honking. It hardly a fraction of a second since the light turned to green. That’s why many a times; I intentionally wait way behind the stop line to avoid such impatience at the traffic junction.
Why do we get so restless at certain times and in certain places? It’s very prevalent these days and many a times despite knowing that saving those 1-2 minutes won’t make a significant difference. In fact it may put us in dangerous situations.
Another well-known example is air travel. During a flight we engage in activities like reading, watching movies, sleeping and seldom conversing to fellow passengers, but the moment the plane touches down on the tarmac, we hear the clicking sound of seat belts, the urgency to switch on mobiles, standing up from their seats despite knowing that we can’t go out until the doors are opened. Those 8-10 minutes are filled with unnecessary restlessness.
Not only this, just take the attention span. Earlier they used to say that minimum 30 seconds are a must for an ad to showcase everything about the product, its features, but lately you have to cram everything in just 5 seconds, so that the person watching shouldn’t click to ‘SKIP AD’ button and move on.
I don’t know whether we created such circumstances or if the circumstances moulded us to behave in this way.
In the Bollywood movie, “Razia Sultan”, there is a song “Ai-Dil-E-Nadaan”, sung by Late Lataji, there are few pauses in the song at certain points, literally no music, no other sound. Those pauses give a different meaning to the song, not only while watching but also listening to it.
In our life too, we need such pauses sometimes. Moments where we can stop, do nothing, observe our surrounding; enjoy THE PRESENT and then move on with regular mad rush. I personally feel that everyone is missing that pause. It may be a long planned get together with school/college friends, two days to spend with parents – just to be with them, or even a five minute exclusive chat with your partner without fiddling to your mobile.
Really need that pause, to make the song of our life meaningful, unforgettable.
