The evolution of the human species from homo sapiens to the one we are today is astonishing. During this transformation, human beings not only invented life-changing things like fire, wheel, electricity, internet and the recent one AI.
Along with these, they have also formed rules and regulations on how to live in society. To control the wrong-doings, they have created laws and it is must to everyone to abide by it.
Laws are good, but we as a people, sometimes feel certain laws are unnecessary. I personally feel, that the law on Euthanasia [the practice of ending someone’s life to relieve their suffering].
We see some cases, where the patient is in a vegetative state for a long. In one such case in India, one unfortunate lady was in a vegetative state for 41 years.
I can understand that the emotions are attached to that person and it’s challenging to let go of that person. But we don’t know what is going on with that patient and just for our satisfaction, we should not let them suffer.
Also, it is difficult to see the person lying on the bed with no emotions or expressions. That feeling is daunting and to see it every day is even more torturous. I can understand, that it gives satisfaction, that the patient is with us.
It’s difficult for anyone and is easier said than done. I feel bad writing this, but if allowed, I would like to change this one law and make Euthanasia legal wherever possible under the strict guidance of the medical fraternity and a must-have consent from the family members.
I would like to know your views. And I apologise if I hurt touching on a very sensitive topic today.
