Saying Goodbye to Childhood Love: A Personal Reflection

Daily writing prompt
Describe a phase in life that was difficult to say goodbye to.

Life is full of ups and downs. As a general rule there are many downs compared to the ups.

But that is what life is all about.

We experience many phases during this. I am right now in early fifties and yet to experience many phases, but so far whatever I experienced, I feel, the innocent love [one-sided] I had with my school mate, was a difficult to say goodbye to.

I was in 3rd or 4th standard. That time, there were no mobiles, no internet, TV was a luxury and landline phones were limited to VIP people in the city.

we used to be together for 6-7 hours in a day as we were classmates.

Despite the boring classes, punishments from teachers, and dreaded homework, being in the class, I never felt dull. The one thing which was soothing was her presence.

That was not the age to understand what love is and other material attractions.

That feeling to look at her, expectations that she should also look back, the consistent try to get in her group for group tasks.

On various festivals, try visiting her home (which was a rarity, as boys visiting girls is a clear no-no that time).

We were together for almost up to 10th standard. Never expressed my feelings, I was afraid that it will end whatever delicate relationship of friendship we have.

After we got departed for studying in different colleges, I was aware of her whereabouts.

I grown up, got married, have kids, but that love or I should say that innocent attraction is difficult to let go.

She is not in the country now, but still I know where she is.

This phase of my life and I think many of yours, is really difficult to say goodbye to.
