Writing Letter

I wasn’t that great at studies, but very few subjects and activities I used to like. Letter writing was one of those. Though I didn’t like to write it as an answer in exams, I really loved expressing myself in words in later life. I wrote letters to many – my parents, relatives, friends, the co-passengers whom I met in bus travel and few to THOSE SPECIAL as well.

Everyone, those who wrote or received the letters – handwritten ones, may be relating it with this. I especially liked this, because, it’s the place where we used to open up, buying it from post office, taking a corner at home, we learnt how to express ourselves, in what way and how much, depending on whom we used to address it. I used to like it so much, sometime I decided to consider it as my career – “A Letter Writer”, but then I knew, it’s not possible.

But I wrote letters for others as well. First, talk to those who want it to get written from me, understand the relations, any special moments, sometimes very special ones as well, but here everything used to remain confidential between these two parties only, I maintained it always, and then I used to write it like I myself is that person. Few of my seniors, college friends and cousins may agree if they are reading this.

Post cards (earlier 15 paisa, then 25 paise), inland letters, a write-up on paper and putting in an envelope, depending on the subject and it’s importance. If writing on post card, then not leaving any corner blank, write vertical, horizontal, diagonally but fill it up with words. Not to forget writing, “fast delivery” just above the address, in a hope that, reading it, post office will send it on priority.

Once sent, curious to know what the other side will be thinking, laughing, getting relaxed, or may be crying and then the anxious wait of reply. Till then whenever we see the postman, just wait and watch whether he is turning to our home, if not then going behind him and asking, anything in my name. So, so much.

I still preserved – yes preserved all those letters I received. Preserved because not sure if I will get those word clad emotions here after. Whenever I go to native and open up my old torn suitcase, I open it, re-read all the letters, sit there for some time and re-live all those memories.

“Just write some words without the vowels in it, press the Send button, the one tick, two ticks, blue ticks, immediate reply of LOL, emoji, not even taking the pain of putting in full spelled words” generation won’t understand the turning words into emotions. For them, the “letter writing” will always be a question answer thing in exams.

If you wrote or received any handwritten letter in life, share your memories or let us know here.
