Del Paperwala, Chennai Milk, Mum Electrician, Mum plumber…these and so many. As there are many natures of people, I think there are multiple ways one feeds the contact list in his/her phones.
AaiPappa, Amma, Baba, Baap, Aaho, Sis, Bhai, Tayadi, My Love, My Life, etc. are the ones we keep for our close ones or family members.
We shouldn’t discuss what someone puts a name for a spouse in the contact list, that’s can’t be predicted and not to be discussed as well.
Then there are friends, which won’t have any connection with their actual names.
It can be tweaked the way one wants, like Nimbalkar becomes ‘NIMBYA’, a good Marwari surname Soni, becomes ‘Sonya’, Prakash becomes ‘Pakya’.
There are few exceptions also like someone’s surname is a long one like Patwardhan or Mujumdar, by some strange reason, he will be called and feed with same long name in the contact list.
Then comes the special ones. The one who is a ‘chalu’ type, we feed his name as PLAYER. He is known as player and almost many of us forget his real name is something else.
In ‘3 Idiots’ movie, the shrewd, clever guy named as ‘CHATUR’ in same way. The one who is always clean shaven gets feed as CHIKNA, or if resembles with some celebrity, make him sit in our contact list as John (resembling John Abraham) or due to angry or special walking style, stored as Bachchan or Jitendra respectively.
Then the serious, professional contact list, but here too we put some initials depending on the company or dept names like Im Rajesh, H Puja, Cip Amol, Prb Vishwanbhar, CK Kavita Akka, more elaborate ones are like Cip R&D Sr Sci. Joshua, H Finance Jani Sir etc.
Finally, the intimate ones – Manoos (my man), Ti (She), Sweety, Pillu, Dhak Dhak. Somewhere I read that a famous Bollywood celebrity, who had multiple girlfriends, put the names of theirs as “Battery Down”, so that no one can doubt the continuous beep beep. (innovative!)
When Jio launched, then all contacts doubled as – Mummy, Mummy Jio, Papa, Papa Jio, literally like another surname to every name.
Like many other personal/private things, our contact list is also personal and it’s up to our discretion how we should manage it.
But most of the names we feed in it, surely has some story behind it, which always reminds of the connect we have with them.
P.S. – What’s the strangest name you have in your contact list and why?
