Display Photo [DP]

When in group of my close friends, I insist that myself to be there in all the clicks, with weird expressions, gestures. We often share those in the group to remind the times we enjoyed.

But that is not the case while taking it beyond the close group.

This again came up when I was checking my Linkedin profile and it showed I am one step away to achieve all-star. And that step is to upload my photo on the portal.

(This topic was anyway in my ‘writing bucket list’ since long and I started.)

So, I checked through many of my photos with comparatively good crop on the head, receding one, laughing, serious, normal, but was not able to decide which one to go with.

Checking all those, I was in a confusion of “TO DP OR NOT TO DP”.

Like many of us, I too am on many portals, but without my photo. [yes, face not photogenic].

Few years back, when I was out of job, one of the consultants insisted that profile photo increases the chances of seen and checked, so out of need uploaded my photo.

But the moment I uploaded the photo, I got a call from my ex-colleague and close friend saying “Arey kay lavalas te, kadhun tak” [man what you put there, just remove it] and I obliged.

Mainly not because he insisted, but I too was not interested and a bit shy putting it up there.

Ideally there shouldn’t be any reason that one shouldn’t upload a photo of his/her. As it is what it is, and it can’t be changed.

A photo shows yourself for that particular time and not actual you. We see many, which shows something else in the photo and in reality it’s something different.

On other hand, I think it takes guts to put yourself to world. It shows the confidence, you are ready to show what you are – a happy face, serious one, professional, casual and many avatars.

But whatever it may be, I still have not gathered the courage to put mine. Though I am not sure whether I will put it or not in future, but for now, the space won’t be filled, leaving me a step away to get the All-Star.
