This is a big and bold statement and came from a world renowned guy. I love this statement and believe in as well.
Just look at the Microsoft office and its products – the Excel, Word, drag and drop for attachment, the most famous and used ‘Ctrl C + Ctrl V’ and many shortcuts.
No doubt, only laziness must be the inspiration behind all these shortcuts and hence the quote.
These shortcuts are the convenience one generally seeks for. But till then it’s a regular, routine, repeating activity. It needs a lazy guy, who gets bored of doing the same things and one fine day finds out how to do it with minimum efforts.
Let’s take another revolutionary example – Invention of wheel. Before invention of the wheel, people must be carrying the load the same usual, difficult way and they must be doing that since long.
But the one [Lazy] among them must have found this task as cumbersome and must be looking for some shortcut. He must have tried few options and voila – the wheel got invented and the rest is history.
Thanks to that [Lazy] person, which helps move the world.
Laziness is one of the many (good) qualities which often gets neglected and criticized for.
Another example – Pythagoras formula [with due respect].
Just to cover the distance from point A to point C, one has to go to point B, take the turn and then to point C. Pythagoras must have thought, why to walk so much and have taken a shortcut from A to C.
And then just to measure how much time and distance saved and playing with the numbers made him one of the most famous mathematician.
This may have helped inventing ways to reduce the time and distance by building bridges, tunnels, ropeways.
So, lazy guys are the ones who are indirectly looking to help people by finding the shortcuts and making the life easy.
Back in the time, someone had to literally move the bum and walk to the other person just to talk or convey message, why can’t we have something which will help us do the same, sitting wherever we are. Came the telephone.
Then – Man, its literally pain dialing the numbers, and some (lazy) curious guy put the numbers keys, just press and done.
Man, I want to talk to my friend while I am in the market – came the mobiles. And so on and so forth.
Many of the inventions are outcome of laziness. Being Lazy is a ‘badge of honor’ as they help humanity with the shortcuts and easy ways to perform the routine, boring activity.
‘Seeking convenience’ is synonym to laziness.
If not into any invention, still they are they are a bliss to the society.
They don’t interfere in anyone’s work, they don’t move unless very important for life and to live, they don’t talk much, so avoid any confrontation, and the list goes on. I fall in this category.
Laziness is living within the means, just with a few basics and that’s it.
