My Uber Driver Story

Many of us at some point of time has their own Uber/Ola driver story. Few of them tried very hard in life, few achieved great success starting with just one vehicle, few are struggling or few giving gyan/knowledge of current Politics, Budget, Bollywood and many other things.

My Uber driver partner story is way different and unique one.

Few days back, I was returning from Hyderabad airport to home. Flight was on time, got cab in time, with no cancellation or come this point or that point issues.

I generally prefer the so called — ‘I won’t talk, Driver won’t talk’ which ends in a five star rating.

But this guy started a discussion asking in typical Hyderabadi Hindi, from where you are coming, what do you do. Oh great…etc etc.

My answers were just one word or one liners. When he asked where I am basically from and when heard that I am from Maharashtra and the native place, he started telling me this story.

He started, he is an ambulance driver. Day time he mostly works as an ambulance driver and whenever possible at night drives Uber.

He then told me the various privileges an Ambulance driver has. No one stops them, even politicians’ cavalcade gives way to them.

Then he came to a big one. Once while driving back from my native place, he was stopped by the traffic police. That time there was no patient in the ambulance.

When the traffic police asking for documents and then trying to probe further, he directly called to the district collector on his personal mobile phone, that too late night.

The collector picked his call, spoke with him and gave a good one to the traffic policeman. Traffic policeman apologized him and had to let go the driver.

I just nodded and shown how awestruck I am while looking at him in the rear view mirror.

Till this it was bearable.

But then he told me that he has most of the AP, Telangana and Maharashtra state district collectors’ personal mobile numbers with him and he uses it whenever feel the need.

While saying this he didn’t even bother to see in the rear view mirror and look at me.

With the confidence he was saying this, I told myself, wish I had that confidence in me.

Thankfully, we reached home by then. I gave him the five stars for the wonderful entertainment and decided to write about it sometime.
