Patriotism: More Than Just Safeguarding the Borders

Are you patriotic? What does being patriotic mean to you?

I think the answer to the question “are you patriotic?”, would be an unanimous ‘yes’.

Whatever may be the that person rich, poor, kind, shrewd, intelligent, dull, thief, police, when it comes to patriotism, then there won’t be two answers.

Definition of patriotism can be different for all. Many think, standing on the border, safeguarding the country is only patriotism.

Patriotism can be shown in many acts of ours.

Late at night, when no traffic police is watching, stopping your vehicle at Red signal and wait till it turns to Green is patriotism.

Paying your taxes as per the laws, is patriotism.

Helping the poor and needy, in whatever capacity is patriotism.

Raising voice against the injustice and standing for it is patriotism.

Creating a playful atmosphere at home, taking care of elders and kids is also a patriotism.

Our neighbours don’t get troubled because of us is also one of the acts of patriotism.

The soldiers standing at the borders, doing their bit but back at home, abiding by all laws, rules and regulations is a true sense of patriotism.

Your idea of patriotism goes very far.

When people keep themselves to traffic rules, in whatever country they might be, they are not necessarily be for that or any other country where they do keep to the rules of that country.

Helping the poor and needy,like every good person should do, according to you would be patriotism, but has nothing to do with nationality or giving preference to a country. The same as raising your voice against the injustice has nothing to do with patriotism and can be a reaction against countries where one does not reside and even against countries one would never want to live.

  Agree! But when we talk about standing against injustice, it is against the oppressors of humanity. It is irrespective of country we live in.
  Also rest things mentioned, may not be patriotism literally, but duty of a good citizen and for me patriotism.
