The Power of Kindness: Helping a Street Vendor

It’s difficult and putting own’s act of kindness to all feels like a little weird. Still, I am writing here. on the way to my office, every Friday, a street vendor who sells bananas tries to push his cart. The cart is generally always full, and to reach the main road, there is a steep slope.

There was a time I used to neglect, as by the time I used to reach near the main road, he used to be way behind me, but one day, I got late and we both met at the same point where the slope starts.

He was trying hard, and it’s regular for him, but that day I thought I should help him. He denied upfront, saying I would be late, but still, I persisted. Man, it takes a lot of effort, even I tried helping him push the cart to the main road.

He said thanks, and I left. Next Friday, I intentionally left home late to see if I could help, and when he saw me, he folded his hands, saying, Please don’t do this, it feels awkward for him that I am helping him. But I denied and did what I wanted to.

Now that become a ritual, he knows that I won’t listen to him, so he allows me to do it.

I feel great and sorry that I am putting it here as a badge of honour. It’s zilch considering what other people sacrifice for many.

  1. Another great post! Kindness is just so powerful. The beautiful thing is it only takes one person to change someone’s whole life.
